Shirts for Japan

IMG_0907

As I mentioned in my post here and here, Susan from Living with Punks is hosting a sew-a-long for Japan.  The idea is to make these adorable shirts and then send them to some sweet little girls  and boys in Japan to let them know that we love them.

I made up three shirts for the sew-a-long and plan to make up two more for my little girls.  They were interested in what I was making and why and I think that it would be nice for them to have shirts to match the ones I am sending along.

Aren’t the little faces on these girls just so sweet?

In the past, I have only appliquéd using Wonder Under.  This pattern called for fusible fleece which I have only ever used for making handbags.  I really like how the fleece gives the appliqué a puffy 3D effect.  I will definitely be trying this again in the future.

Many thanks to Susan at Living with Punks for hosting the sew-a-long and to Chelsea from Pink Fig for providing the adorable pattern.

Happy Sewing!

  1. These shirts are adorable - I love how the fusible fleece gives an extra dimension. I just discovered FF this past year (it's difficult to get in Canada), so I buy a ton everytime I am in the States - it's sort of an interfacing crush:)

  2. I have never heard of fusible fleece - but maybe its because I am in Canada according to KJ above. Those faces are darling. What a sweet thing you are doing. Thanks for the links, and the inspiration.
